  • Battle of the Bands: GeoTribe

Tomorrow’s the day! We can’t wait to see you all at Live Mic Music’sBattle of the Bands” this Wednesday at Revolution Bar & Music Hall in Amityville. We are featuring our final band on this bill, the funk reggae-ska band, Geotribe!

A five-piece group from Bellmore, New York, Geotribe seeks to bring the positive vibes both on stage and in their music, which you can clearly hear on their EP “Positivity” both literally and figuratively. Their songs are addictively groovy, you almost can’t resist bopping your head to the beat! I really enjoy that every song off of their EP has its own flavor and sound and I can’t wait to hear them live.

To get to know them a little better, here’s my interview with them and be sure to check out their set tomorrow!

Describe yourself in a few sentences or less

GeoTribe is a jam band with an earthy, funk sound.  GeoTribe brings good vibes to the stage, and the dance floor. Along with guitar, bass, and drums, they mix in keyboards, flute, bass flute, saxophones and clarinet on their tracks. The bright harmonies and smooth bass lines come together with original lyrics to keep listeners grooving all night long.

Are you affiliated with any label or music group? If not, do you have any plans to?

We are not currently affiliated with a label. We are always open to new opportunities.

What is your process for music writing?

We have many different ways that we write music. There is always collaboration between the members. Often one member of the band will bring an idea to a rehearsal, and we will develop concepts and form as a group. The music of GeoTribe always has an improvisational component. Most of our music is driven by the vocals, with featured instrumental sections. We do have some entirely instrumental songs as well. Our music comes with inspiration from all styles of music, old and new. Our passion for music fuels our creative process. We are constantly writing new songs for the band.

How do you feel your music has changed since you first began making music?

Since we first started, we have grown a lot. We are always writing new material. Communication is the most important part of a band.

What inspired the song Four Leaf Clover?

The song Four Leaf Clover is actually about suicide prevention. The message is to treat each day like it’s something special, like finding a four leaf clover. We want to inspire a positive outlook on life.

What has been your most memorable moment performing your music?

Before our show at The Bitter End we are all just hanging out front, when on a whim Logan takes a guitar and amp and performs solo on the street right in front of the venue. He gathered a large crowd by singing the GeoTribe song “When You Get That Feeling”. We brought some of them into the venue, and we made new friend that night.

What are you most excited to do music wise this year?

We will be opening for Oogee Wawa on March 8th at Revolution Music Hall in Amityville.

Aside from this event, where can people see you for your next show?

We will be performing live on WUSB 90.1FM at 10am on February 23rd.

February 24th we will be at 89 North in Patchogue at 7pm with Ernie and the Band and Dudley Music.
