Pacific Ridge Records has another sick single to release as part of their Senses Fail tribute album! As I stated in the last release, Pacific Ridge Records has the same mindset as we do here at The After Hours Review, so of course I couldn’t say no! Alternative/Metal band, Alteras, covered “Gold Jacket, Green Jacket…” off of Senses Fail’s album, “If There Is Light, It Will Find You”!
Alteras is an amazing band out of Youngstown, Ohio. It consists of Jake Clasen (vocals), Mike Dulay (guitar), Zack Orr (bass) and Tony Costarella (drums). The first time I heard Altera’s take on this song I immediately fell in love with their sound. I love the way they were able to keep with the classic Senses Fail sound while adding their own mix of Indie/Emo vocals and darker instrumentals. It hints at the Metal element the band typically comes with on their original music. Jake Clasen’s vocals adds so much to this song. Buddy Nielsen (vocals of Senses Fail) is known for having a bit of a higher tone with his vocals, but Jake is able to take it even higher and it makes the song sound that much better! I really enjoy the screaming background vocals that accompany Jake’s powerful singing voice! The only thing missing from this cover is Altera’s own breakdown at the end (something I was kinda hoping for)!
