  • No, This Is Patrick!

No, This Is Patrick! is a Pop Punk/Easycore band out of Nashville, Tennessee.  The band consists of Andrew Dorn (lead vocals), Matt Isaacs (guitar/screams), Sean Naples (guitar), Truman House (drums) and Henry House (bass).  They recently released their self-titled, first full length album in May.  This album is nothing short of a banger.  Heavy Pop Punk fans will be hooked on No, This Is Patrick! after listening to the first track!

One of my favorite aspects of running this blog is that in addition to finding bands myself, so many amazing bands and artists reach out to me.  That was the case with No, This Is Patrick!, and I am so glad they did.  Matt Isaacs reached out to me with the hope that I’d be willing to check out their album.  All I had to say was that they were a “heavy pop punk” band for me to be intrigued.  I went on Spotify to check out the album and was instantly sold!  “Where’s the Giant, Mansley?!” is the first track and it is awesome.  The song starts off with a heavy intro, similar to the old days of Set Your Goals and Four Year Strong.  I was head-banging along within seconds!  What I love about this album is the wide variety the band incorporates.  Some songs, such as “Where’s the Giant, Mansley?!” and “Alas, Earwax” would fit perfectly on an A Day to Remember album, where songs such as “Come Around” and “Unincorporated Ducktown” would fit well with the likes of Blink 182 and New Found Glory.

Makes sure you check out No, This Is Patrick!, their new album, and the interview I conducted with the band below!

What genre of music do you consider your work to be?  Who are your major influences in the genre?

We refer to our style as Heavy Pop Punk, so we like to combine modern easycore like A Day To Remember and Four Year Strong with classic pop punk like Blink, Sum 41, and Bodyjar.  Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! is pretty much the reason this band was formed, so they’re a huge influence on us. We also all love progressive rock and metal, from Yes and Rush to Haken and Protest the Hero.

When did you first take an interest in the music scene?  What inspired you to make music?

Me personally (Matt), it was because of Guitar Hero 2 of all things. I was in middle school and I read a review in a gaming magazine and thought it sounded fun and different.  I played it so much and enjoyed pretending to be a rock star so much that I was like ‘ok what’s the next step?’

Do you have a record label?  Are you a member of any music organization?

I put our stuff out through my own very small label called Valinor Records, so we’re very indie/DIY right now, though we are in the process of looking for a manager.

How has your music evolved since you first began making music?

I think the biggest evolution has been adding diversity through collaboration.  The early period of Patrick was pretty much just Sean and I, so once Andrew, Henry, and Truman joined they took the songs that you hear on the self-titled album to a whole new level.

What has been your biggest challenge as a band/artist so far?

The first challenge was getting a full band lineup haha! We had several people ‘join’ and then randomly disappear without telling us. It’s such a blessing to have a real full band now.  The current challenge is just standing out from the crowd and getting as many people to listen as possible!

What can you tell me about any new material, writing and recording process, inspiration for the music, etc?

We all have so many demos we’re going to work on, we have a ton of material to adapt and write together for our next record.  It’s definitely going to be even more diverse, and hopefully show off a little bit of proginess too.  We will have even heavier songs and songs that sound like nothing we’ve done before.

Do you have any main themes or topics you like to hit in your music?

We tend to write about what’s personal to us, so everything you hear is about a real life situation we experienced, whether it be relationships or mental health or an awful boss.

What’s the ultimate direction you have for yourself?

We want to play as many shows as possible while we promote this new record and start the early stages of the next one.  We want to go around the world.

Any upcoming release dates or shows?

We have a house show in Murfreesboro, TN on June 17th at 6097 Lebanon Rd, and then a show at Betty’s Grill in Nashville on July 5th.

If there is anything else you want to add or touch upon please feel free to share!

We just want to encourage people to share our record with their friends, and the video for “Where’s the Giant, Mansley?!” because we think it’s pretty funny. Cheer someone up with puppets today.
