“No Games” is the newest, funk-tastic addition to the collection of releases from musical mad-scientist Max “noshows”, an artist and producer based in New York. Fans of the indie genre and those who love to have a mini dance party are going to love this track: it’s got all of the ingredients for straight up having a good time.
“I wanted to write about something personal yet relatable. When someone shows you love, it’s sometimes hard to know whether it’s genuine or fake.” noshows wrote to me about the song, “ The message of the song is me asking this girl to tell me what she wants and what she’s really feeling about me from the start…Essentially just being real. I saw it as more of a fun song people could dance to as opposed to something with a deep message, but the message does ring true to me and reflects how I felt at the time.”
“No Games” is a track that I would like to describe as a quarantine experiment gone completely, completely right. Previously noshows has released knock-out tracks diving into genres like hip-hop to jazz to rock, but “No Games” was something different. “Sometimes I’ll spend months writing one song, solving the puzzle of what the lyrics will be and how the instruments will complement it, but this was not the case with ‘No Games’.” noshows wrote to me about the process of writing the track, “One day within the first couple weeks of the quarantine I was messing around on Logic out of boredom trying to make a dance beat. I was having writer’s block and hadn’t been able to write a song in a while so initially I had the intention of scrapping the beat until suddenly a catchy chord progression popped into my head seemingly out of nowhere.” And experiment he did. Like a mad music scientist, noshows put all the elements that make a song so fun and danceable and will immediately boost your serotonin levels.
