  • Crooked Coast – “Waking Life”

Cape Cod’s own Crooked Coast is back with another kick-ass single for your listening pleasure! The boys dropped “Waking Life”, the next single in anticipation of their upcoming album, “Picture This”, available everywhere August 5th, 2022! Am I the only one that has the same exact thought every time I first hear a new track from them; “this is my favorite Crooked Coast song yet!”? It’s amazing how many times I’ve said those words, but it’s even more amazing how the boys of Crooked Coast continue to pump out hit after hit!

The thing that has impressed me the most is that Crooked Coast has not allowed themselves to be pigeonholed into one specific genre or vibe. They are the definition of genre blending, of saying “fuck it” and playing whatever type of music they feel like. This, combined with their unmatched musical talent, has sent Crooked Coast on a road towards undoubted success! “Waking Life” is the most recent example of just how good these guys are. It is a song about going through the motions of life and the internal battle one has with themself. The song starts off with a basic guitar chord and drumming that quickly builds up into the full swing of the song and gets the listener amped! The progression of the guitar is infectious and will have you rocking along instantly. The band quickly transitions into the first verse which hits home with the very first line. “Sometimes, I don’t wanna go to bed, intrusive thoughts all in my head won’t leave me alone.” If this isn’t one of the most relatable lyrics in a song, I don’t know what is. We all have those nights where our thoughts get the best of us and we toss and turn thinking about the “what ifs”. The second verse opens up with “and sometimes, I don’t wanna hit the town, all my thoughts have got me down I’m staying at home.” Despite the lyrics depicting an internal battle, Crooked Coast brings it all together in the chorus. “Feel like a knock down drag out bum on the floor. Cause I know people that got nothin’ but I still want more. I don’t know but it feels alright, it makes me wake up in the middle of the night, just another day of this waking life.” I LOVE this chorus because it perfectly describes how most of us feel. We’re very self-critical, we overthink, we worry, and it impacts our lives in a large way. However, it’s that very feeling that keeps us going. The feeling to strive for better, to continue on in life despite the hardships. This is a song that you can listen to at any time and it will put you in a positive mindset and get you ready to take on your life! Of course, what would a Crooked Coast song be without a little fast paced action. The final 30 seconds of this song feature and uptick in intensity and will have crowds going wild. I can’t wait to see a pit or 2 form for this one!

Crooked Coast is absolutely killing the game right now. They are currently on an East Coast tour to promote their upcoming album, filled with amazing shows and festival slots!
