On their latest offering, the Fredonia rockers serve up more of their signature sound.
Fernway is one of those low key heaters that finds a way to pull you back in every time you look away. The vocals are soothing and full of emotion, the guitar leads are memorable, the bass rocks your hips and their drummer pulls no punches. There’s a home for these guys in several DIY scenes (as well as the larger mainstream) and, while their sound is familiar, it never ceases to be “their own”.
Their ability to pull away from the pack could be the greatest case for listening and watching this band. Fernway loves an instrumental break. Examples can be found in the saxophone section on Alt-Rock single “I Have To Return Some Video Tapes” or the booming cut time album closer, “Big.Bad.Ugly.” Sometimes they’re ambient, sometimes they’re fancy, and always their interesting. When this band finds a pocket they keep it and stuff you inside it.
When asked what “Welcome To The Ground” means to them, Jonah Wrest makes mention that this is a record about those insecure moments in a persons life.
“‘Welcome To The Ground’ symbolizes the lowest point in someone’s life journey. We spend everyday trying to work on ourselves, our legacy, our purpose, and it is very easy to let negative thoughts in. They can pull you down and when all of those negative emotions pile up, they send you free falling through a wave of emotions” notes Jonah.
“Overall it’s not meant to highlight the bad things that can happen to us, it’s more about a reminder that we don’t have to go through any hardships alone”.
I strongly recommend listening to “Welcome To The Ground”🙏
Much love!
