  • Karma Versa – “Salvaje”

Karma Versa is one of those bands who can do no wrong. Every single thing they drop turns into gold. Karma Versa started off 2021 with a bang by dropping their highly anticipated new album, “Salvaje”! This album is nothing short of a masterpiece. No matter your genre of preference, you’ll undoubtably find a song you love on “Salvaje”!

Karma Versa has easily become one of my favorite bands from Long Island. Although they are branded under the Post-Hardcore genre, these guys have a way of switching up the rhythm and flow of each song to create an entirely different sound from what you’d normally expect from a “Post-Hardcore” band. “Salvaje” starts off with an “Intro” track that I am obsessed with. It’s 35 seconds of a tranquil sounding strum of the guitar paired with light drumming that immediately gets your body swaying back and forth. Karma Versa doesn’t stay that calm for long, as the album continues into “Ancestors”, my favorite track from the album. The instrumentals come in fast and heavy, amping you up for what’s sure to be an amazing listening experience. Oscar Nunez kills it with his vocals on this track. He starts off with some vocals beautifully sung in Spanish and transitions into mayhem just as quick. “Do you think I give a fuck about what you think of me? Let go of the past, I see righteous path. Do what thou will. Let go of of the past, I see righteous path. Do what thou will. I don’t settle for weak skin, weak skin. I don’t settle for weak energy. I knew that if I drew back from the fake pack I will never lack. Fuck that! I’m getting high”. I can’t wait for shows to begin again because all I can picture is absolute chaos in the crowd when Karma Versa performs this track!

The album continues on with “Babylonian Tower”. I love the placement of this song on the album because it perfectly exemplifies Karma Versa’s ability to make an insanely good song without the need from screaming vocals. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE screaming vocals, but a band that need to add screaming vocals to gain attention disappoints me. Karma Versa has proven time and again that they are a band that can do it all! Don’t underestimate these dudes; they’re on their way to the top! “Salvaje” powers on with “Glitter Tongue”, another powerful track that’s already proving to be a fan favorite. This song is one that fans are going to be singing their hearts out to with the band. Oscars’s vocals on this track are perfect. “All divine, It’s the way you make me feel. It’s when you laugh that gives me life. Glitter tongue, the only star, you belong to me. Praise the flower, you’ve become my opium queen. Your body naked on my bed. Was it all meaningless? Was it just a moment?” In addition to Oscar’s vocals, the band’s instrumental performance really stands out to me on this track. Guilberto, Christian, Bryan, and Gerson are flawless on “Glitter Tongue”. The varying, beastly guitar chords, infectious bass and fast paced drumming makes this song an instant classic!

Karma Versa follows up with “Salvaje”, the album titled track. “Here he comes to the altar. Ask him for forgiveness. Ask him for forgiveness. Let the blood cleanse you. Forgiven by a statue. I don’t forgive you. I don’t love you.” This is an amazing segue into “Hempstead”, the first single that was dropped off the album. “Hempstead” is a track that packs a powerful message about domestic abuse. “Do you feel like a God? You’re praised, yet give nothing in return. Do you feel like a God? If you beat her enough, she’ll surely learn. Do you feel anything? Besides the bruises on your knuckles? He goes to church, we know he’s fake. He washes down the pity, then rapes.” Check out the full review of the single here!

Karma Versa dropped what is sure to be considered one of the best albums of 2021. It is a 7 track album that will resonate with every Rock fan. I can’t wait to see what 2021 has in store for these guys!
