• Now Listening:
  • Carson Dowhan

Carson Dowhan is an Alternative/Indie-Pop artist out of California.  He reached out me to recently with the hopes that I would be interested in checking out his newly released single; Wild Eyes.  Within thirty seconds of listening to the song, I was hooked.  Carson Dowhan created the song with the perfect blend of a classic Indie-Rock style and Pop.  His music is sure to catch the attention of music lovers!

I had the opportunity to speak with Carson Dowhan about the new single and his background as a musician.  He considers his music to be “acoustic pop.  I’ve tried to follow the footsteps of Ed Sheehan and Jason Mraz, but sometimes I end up with stuff that bends towards the Indie or even Folk genre.  I began writing music during high school, but began to take it seriously during the transition to college.  I spent my final project putting together an EP, and that’s when I knew that this is something I wanted to continue doing.  I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to lyrics.  There’s nothing like the feeling of coming up with a song that resonates with me.  I get a huge high from that.  The high also comes from seeing friends and family know your songs by heart”.  This quote really resonated with me.  I am always a member of the crowd, singing along every word to every song that my favorite bands play.  I feel like I get a “high” by singing along with the band.  The feeling of everyone being brought together by music, and seeing everyone know every single word is such a cool experience to be a part of.  I can only imagine how amazing that must feel to be the one on stage watching fans, friends and family sing along with you!

Carson Dowhan’s new single, Wild Eyes, is phenomenal.  I have been listening to this song on repeat all week!  The song begins with the sound of the tambourine and  the acoustic guitar.  The peacefulness of these instrumentals will hook the listener immediately; it absolutely hooked me!  What impressed me so much is Carson Downhan’s vocals.  He immediately comes in with, “I thought we talked about it, how we all end up in the very same place.  Together, never apart, woah, oh, oh, oh, never apart.  Don’t leave the driver waiting, now let’s not fool ourselves we are so young and easy.  Together, you and easy, woah, oh, oh, oh young and easy”.  His vocals are flawless.  Carson Dowhan stated that a big influence of his is Jason Mraz, and that is exactly who I think of when I listen to this song!  The way Carson was able to create an Alternative song that contains an Indie style and still remain “pop” is awesome.

As the song continues, Carson Dowhan introduces a full band instrumental, with the use of the electric guitar and drums.  It adds so much depth to the song, and comes in at the perfect time.  I love that the verses are still mainly acoustic and that it transitions into the full band style during the chorus.  The lyrics in the chorus are very relatable.  Being young himself, Carson Dowhan typically writes about the experiences of being young, the mistakes made, and the naivety that comes with young age.  With our wild eyes with no surprises, how did we get this far?  We spend the night just one more time, how did we get this far?  Say it’s true, tomorrow’s not coming around for me and you, I am gone and I’m so sorry.  For all the ways your days were spent waiting for an answer, to run away can only get me so far”.

Carson Dowhan has a lot planned for the near future.  I saved up all summer waiting tables to record two singles.  I’m planning on putting them in a five-song EP that I plan to be out by May, or June.  I’m writing as much as I can.  I’m coming up with more songs fro the rest of the EP.  Music is where I belong, and I know that it will never go anywhere.  Hopefully in a few years I’ll have released a few more albums and go on tour”.  If the future releases are anything like Wild Eyes, they are sure to be hit after hit.  I cannot wait to hear what Carson Dowhan has in store for us!  Make sure you follow his social media accounts and check out the single on the blog’s Spotify playlist: After Hours Review!
