Freeze Mf is a four-piece rock and roll band out of Philadelphia that is taking the scene by storm! The band was formed in 2018 and consists of Dom Stone (vocals), Billy Andrey (guitar), Matt Gausel (drums) and Chris Freeze (bass). Freeze Mf have been on a roll since their formation, releasing demos, EPs, singles, and a 3 track live album! On Friday, February 17th, 2023, Freeze Mf dropped their first single of the new year, “Cold Soul“.
“‘Freeze Mf’ blends ice cold, rock n roll themes of guttural punk vocal stylings, hardcore intensities, and dance-like grooves that are as violent as a Philadelphia drug bust.” I typically don’t take a band’s bio and incorporate it word for word, but this quote perfectly describes both Freeze Mf and their powerful new single. “Cold Soul” is the band’s first release since 2021, and Freeze Mf knew exactly how to gain the listeners attention instantly. The count in on the drum sticks quickly transitions into an action packed beginning filled with hardcore vocals, filthy guitar chords and infectious drumming that will keep you rocking along. “COLD SOUL, OUT OF CONTROL! FREEZE MOTHER FUCKER!” radiates through the speakers and fills the listener with intense energy that will have an entire crowd going insane at a Freeze Mf show!
I got the chance to speak with vocalist Dom Stone who shared a little bit of what influenced this song. “The inspiration behind the track is basically just talking about life on the road. How we are unsure what the future holds for ourselves but we are still going to rock full force with the band.” Upon listening to this song, you can hear the raw emotion that went into the lyric writing and vocals. “Every day I wake, want to get out of this place, only ever wanted to escape. The world can be so cold, dreams of the open road, keeps me alive (keep me alive), but sometimes it just feels like. The future, it holds, uncertainty. The future, it holds, nothing for me.” Despite the uncertainty of what lies ahead for Freeze Mf, theses dudes have no intention of slowing down at all. “Freeze is coming for you (whatcha gonna do bitch what ya gunna do?) Freeze is here coming for you (whatcha gonna do bitch what ya gunna do?) We’re coming for you!” This may be my favorite part of the song, as it leads into a nasty breakdown reminiscent of older hardcore bands like First Blood and Hatebreed!
Freeze Mf is a band that must be on your radar! “Cold Soul” is another banger added to the band’s discography. Dom Stone stated “this single is just a taste of new sounds that will be coming from Freeze MF.
