Up next on our “Battle of the Bands” features is Alumni, an Indie/Emo band out of Long Island! I have seen Alumni perform before, and have written about them in the past. They are one of the best original bands on Long Island, with a big following and some awesome material already released! Check out the interview we did with Alumni below!

What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences in the genre?
Emo/Pop Rock. We’re really into Jimmy Eat World, Bayside, and Descendents
When did you first take an interest in the music scene? What inspired you to make music?
We all mostly have been going to shows since high school and have gigged for a while. School of Rock was also a big deal for us.
Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organization?
No, but we’d love to!
How has your music evolved since you first began making music?
It used to suck and now it sucks less.
What has been your biggest challenge as a band/artist so far?
Honestly, we all get along really well which makes everything easy to get done. Being in a band with your best friends is a great thing.
What can you tell us about any new material, writing and recording process, inspiration for the music, etc?
Were actually getting ready to release an album very soon. We worked with a great producer over in NJ at Barbershop Studios and it was the best experience we’ve had together so far.
Do you have any main themes or topics you like to hit in your music?
We don’t really have a big theme, every song is it’s own thing. We have a song about video games, but we also have stuff about relationships and whatnot.
What’s the ultimate direction you have for the band?
We’re just having fun with it!
