If you haven’t heard of The Wrecks yet, you’re missing out on some awesome music. They’re an Indie-Rock band based out of Los Angeles and they are sure to stay relevant for years to come. With musical influences from bands like Weezer, The Pixies and Vampire Weekend, The Wrecks come with a unique blend of styles that give them their edgy, original sound.
I first heard The Wrecks on Alt Nation on Sirius XM with their hit single Favorite Liar. The song begins with an infectious, catchy, upbeat strum of the guitar that keeps you listening. It immediately drew me and made me want to hear more. As the song continues, the five piece band shows off their talent and makes it impossible for you to not want to dance and sing along to the song.
Along with Favorite Liar, The Wrecks recorded two other singles, Turn It Up and I Don’t Like You, that are just as good as their debut single! What is so cool about the release of these songs is the story behind their recording process of them. According to their Facebook page, the band recorded the three songs “on a whim” when they heard the news that their friend was given access to a recording studio for only a few days. The band took full advantage and used those three days to record the best songs that they could. To their surprise, the band found out that they were NOT allowed in the studio after all. They cleaned the studio as fast as they could and set out with their newly recorded EP, We Are The Wrecks, on a hard drive in one of their backpacks.
It amazes me to know that The Wrecks recorded these songs with only a moments notice. If I didn’t know that, I would have thought these guys spent months perfecting the songs prior to their release. If this is the quality of music this five man group can record in only three days, I can only imagine how awesome their debut, full length album will be!
While I have not had the pleasure of seeing The Wrecks live yet, I have only heard good things! If you get the chance, make sure to catch one of their shows! Tour dates are below!
