Hailing from Philly, 21 year old rapper Mad Squablz is here to put all the new age rappers to shame. He is being called a “young lyrical genuis” and a “Hip Hop savior.” Mad Squablz strays away from the Hip Hop that is being glorified in the media today. He does not have to rap about Xanax and money to make a hit record. You will never hear him “mumble” on a track and never hear a weak verse. His ability to switch up his flow on every song and change to whatever cadence he feels necessary is what makes his music both unpredictable and appealing. Mad Squablz is the guy that the “old school” Hip Hop heads have been waiting on!
Born in ’96, Mad Squablz knew he had a musical gift but never wanted the spotlight for himself. He kept his talent hidden for the first 9 years of his life. Once he sang for his family, it was obvious that he was destined for greatness. As the years went on, his love for singing planted the seed for his passion in music production which led to his life’s passion; Hip Hop.
Mad Squablz released a new album in 2017, M.A.D. 2 (Music Addiction Disorder II). The album is filled with BARS for days. What is so great about Mad Squablz is that he doesn’t need to fill his songs with unnecessary lyrics, nonsense ad libs or inaudible verses. The album kicks off with Mission Statement, Pt. 2. The listener is immediately thrown into the diverse artist that is Mad Squablz. This first song alone has the style and flow similar to multiple Hip Hop greats. Promise Land (my personal favorite) is a freestyle over the instrumental of Alright by Kendrick Lamar and A Tale of 2 Citiez by J. Cole. Mad Squablz lyrics flow perfectly over both instrumentals, and his ability to transition from one instrumental to the next validates the claims that his skillset will keep him here for the long run. M.A.D. 2 has the grittiness of Onyx, the speed of Busta Rhymes and the lyrical genius of Hip Hop legends like Big L, Nas, Jay- Z and Kendrick Lamar.
Mad Squablz also has no issue calling out the extremely popular “mumble rappers” that are out today. On Humble Remix (a single released separately from M.A.D. 2), he raps “I don’t give a damn ’bout a mumble rapper, sound the alarm when I light the torch, I know it’s gon’ be hard to be humble after, ya boy blows up and they hatin’ more. Oh well, let ‘em hate some more, erase the fake, deflate the force, I’ll take ya place and wage a war.” Despite being known as an extremely humble guy, I like to see his competitive nature. There is no doubt in my mind that Mad Squablz is going to blow up soon and take the crown.
With viral youtube videos that have reached over one million views, having his first EP, Art of BoomBap, being crowned #7 album of the year in 2016 by TeamBackPack after being released for only 10 days, and being referred to as “the kid who will make Hip Hop the genre of choice again,” it is only a matter of time before Mad Squablz takes off! Make sure to check out his music on Soundcloud, Spotify, Youtube, and iTunes!
