Stories Untold brandishes themselves an “alt-rock/post-hardcore” band, out of Detroit, Michigan. The band consists of Kevin Quednau (rhythm guitar/vocals), Jake Clark (bass guitar/vocals), Tim Williams (lead guitar/vocals) and Brennen Moloney (drums). They gained attention while playing killer hometown shows; so much attention that they now have been blessed with the opportunity to tour the country. The band signed with NYC-based independent record company, Razor & Tie, and released their debut album, Can’t Go Home, in March of 2017.
Stories Untold introduced the world to their music with a 15 track debut album. This immediately excited me because many new bands that I have been checking out have had short albums, typically ranging somewhere between 5-8 tracks on an album. Stories Untold made sure their album had depth in order to demonstrate their musical talents. They have referenced bands like Taking Back Sunday, Brand New and Silverstein as their musical influences. Can’t Go Home is a blend of the band’s musical influences and their own unique sound. In my opinion, there is NOT a single bad song on this entire album. The band showed their ability to play a range of different song styles, from slow paced, emotionally filled songs like College, Strangers and Listen, to fast paced, hard hitting songs like Too True To Be Good, Fleur De Lis and To Cast You Out (which has a killer breakdown).
I got the chance to briefly speak with Stories Untold via social media. I like to reach out to bands I am going to write about to allow their voice to be heard in the writing. Instead of telling me their backstory or trying to promote themselves in any way, the band simply stated “let our fans know they inspire us more than they know!” They didn’t use the blog as an outlet to promote themselves, rather they wanted to show appreciation to the fans that make their music worth it. That speaks volumes to the type of guys that make up Stories Untold.
While reading up on the band, I found out that they are big on crowd participation during their shows. From getting up close and personal with the crowd to forming full drum circles, Stories Untold turns a night out at a rock show into a night to remember! I can’t wait until I have the chance to catch one of their shows!
