Oogee Wawa is an alternative/reggae band out of Long Island, New York. This five piece band incorporates reggae, pop, punk and hip hop all in one to produce a distinct style and sound that not many other Long Island bands have been able to capture. Oogee Wawa is able to generate a west coast vibe while still throwing in their own unique east coast flavor.
Oogee Wawa hit the ground running when they formed back in 2008. The band began playing shows all around Long Island and the tri-state area, quickly building a name for themselves in the music scene. With the sounds and style of bands like Dirty Heads, Sublime and Slightly Stoopid, Oogee Wawa became a coveted act at all music events/venues. I first heard of Oogee Wawa while listening to my Spotify “radio” on my commute to work. Pack the Van (feat. Joey Jarkum), the final song off of their 2015 album, More Sand Than Money, flooded my ears and filled me with peace and positive vibes. The song has tranquil instrumentals with a unforgettable chorus. The minute you hear the strum of the guitar, you’ll automatically be hooked on Oogee Wawa.
My favorite element that Oogee Wawa’s music possesses is that it does not stray from the band’s roots. One of the coolest things about their songs are the Long Island references that can be heard throughout. Lines such as “you can find with me with the Oogee love bringing that Long Island sound” and “I wish there were palm trees on the 495 ‘cause when the clouds come around it’s the positivity that I need” will make every Long Islander proud.
Since forming, Oogee Wawa has released two albums, two EPs and countless singles. The positivity in their music is infectious and will put the most pessimistic of people in a good mood. With beachside vibes and a fusion of multiple genres of music, Oogee Wawa has a little something for everyone! Make sure to check out their music on all media outlets!
