  • Hunter Dumped Us Here

Iowa born band, Hunter Dumped Us Here, is making a name for themselves in the Indie Rock scene. They consider themselves an “experimental indie rock/pop band”. Each of their songs tells a story that the band hopes will “impact every heart that soaks their music in.” The short bio on their Facebook account shows that this band is worthy of a listen by any music lover!

Hunter Dumped Us Here has the ability to create music that is so dynamic and original it quickly draws you in. There are no two songs on their discography that sound alike. The band has mastered incorporating guitar, bass, drums, other percussion instruments, and a piano into their music. With such diversity on each album, it surprises me that they haven’t gained more attention by now! Hopefully this piece will help! Recently I had the opportunity to speak with Gabe Reasoner (vocals, piano, guitar, bass) and he had a lot to say! “The band’s name relates to leaving a legacy behind when you’re gone and was inspired by stumbling upon a murdered and abandoned deer in the woods when I was a child. We want to leave more than bones when we are gone. We strive to have a diverse sound that connects with people’s emotions. The band’s purpose is to demonstrate understanding for the people of all walks of life, spread mental health awareness and ultimately to let people know they always have a home in the music they connect with.”. All bands have the ultimate goal to make it big, but Hunter Dumped Us Here is enjoying the ride along the way. They don’t care if they make it big or not as long as they have an impact on someone’s life. With that outlook, I will continue to support and promote this band!

“I started the band in 2013 a a solo project and creative outlet that was as much a coping mechanism for myself and my friends in the music scene. In 2015 the band became a full lineup when I added some of my closest friends, and we released our first full length album (I Understand) in 2016. It was made up of our friends and families stories of hardship each told through a different song.” In my opinion, their debut album, I Understand, is a killer debut album. The album kicks off with Beautifully, a song that starts with a low toned guitar strum. Beautifully consists of two simple lines that complete the vocals; “There are too many voices for me to understand, Why don’t they take solutions, why don’t they offer prayers.” Every time I listen to this song I’m immediately transported back to my high school days, blasting Brand New and singing my heart out to their songs Tautou and Limousine. After Beautifully, Hunter Dumped Us Here began going full speed and amped up the album. It impressed me so much to hear how the band was able to capture the tone of so many bands that have influenced them. Very few bands are able to produce a sound similar to bands like Thrice, Brand New, The Killers and The Cure all in one album!

Hunter Dumped Us Here followed their debut album with the release of Key(s) in the fall of 2017. The album was made to rehash older songs; some that were never recorded and some that did not have the full band lineup. The band is currently working on their sophomore full length album with a hopeful release date in 2018. “The new album should be even more diverse while still building off the indie rock roots established by the earlier releases.” With the tempo and pulse that Hunter Dumped Us Here established in their first two full length albums, I cannot wait to hear what they’re working on! Make sure you check out the band’s music in this post and on the blog’s Spotify playlist!
