If their name sounds familiar, it should! Sink the Ship is a hardcore band that is quickly making a name for themselves in the music scene. I first heard of them when they played along side of We Were Sharks, Boys of Fall and Older than Oceans back in February at Revolution Bar & Music Hall. They were by far the most hardcore band on the bill and they were nothing short of impressive. It takes a lot for a hardcore band to rally a crowd that is mainly there for pop punk music, but Sink the Ship got the crowd behind them from the jump and had everyone rocking!
Sink the Ship originated back in 2012. They credit their influences to both the post hardcore bands of the past and the metal artist’s of today. Due to their varying influences, Sink the Ship was able to capture a unique sound that draws in both fans of the new school and old school hardcore music. In 2014, they released their debut EP, “Reflections”. Since then, they have played alongside some big bands such as Atilla, The Plot in You, Bless the Fall, A Skylit Drive, and Protest the Hero. Sink the Ship is currently preparing to release their new album, “Persevere”, via Sharptone Records, on April 27, 2018.
With a new album on the way, it is no surprise that Sink the Ship released two singles from the album; Domestic Dispute (feat. Bert Poncet of Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!) and Second Chances. Domestic Dispute, the first release off of “Persevere”, is a heavy hitting song that perfectly encompasses the hardcore/metal/pop blend that the band executes so well. My favorite part of the song is the build up that leads into one of the sickest breakdowns I’ve heard from a band that I’ve written about since starting this blog! If you want your face to melt, just skip to 2:30 on the song! The second release in promotion of the album, Second Chances, shows off more of the hardcore side of Sink the Ship. The band is really able to show off their musical talents with the killer guitar riffs and amazing drumming on this song. The screaming verses and singing chorus engrosses you in the song. “I’ve always kept my circle small, you let me down, I’ll write you off, you better come correct with your intentions, because I don’t fuck with second chances.”
The only thing that sucks is that there are only two songs on Sink the Ship’s Spotify account and we have to wait another month for the full album to be released! From the sound of these first two releases, I think it’s safe to say we can expect amazing things from “Persevere”! Keep up to date with the blog’s social media accounts for updates on Sink the Ship’s new album!
