Stuart Anson is an up-and-coming Pop / Hip Hop artist that is currently residing in Savannah. Stu began chasing his music dreams in high school back in Madison, New Jersey and never looked back. While attending SUNY Cortland (small world, I also attended Cortland), he was challenged by one of his fraternity brothers to put a pen to paper and write some songs. From that point on, Stu has been writing nonstop, doing everything he can to perfect his craft. He is set to release his next EP, “Iconic”, on May 3rd of this year!
I got the chance to ask Stuart Anson some questions and get some insight into what his music career is all about. Stu’s major influences are Sammy Adams, Shawn Mendes, Pitbull, and Macklemore. When I first heard Stuart Anson I thought of Sammy Adams right away. Stu hopes to be able to collaborate with him one day soon. I hope they are able to collaborate soon too because that would be one dope song!
Stu started out as more of a Hip Hop artist, and has slowly become a bit more Pop while still holding on to those east coast Hip Hop roots. When asked about how his music has evolved over the years, Stu stated; “God, so many phases I’ve been through with my rap. When I started, I was filled with pain and hurt. As I developed more as a songwriter, and met my producer Sam Bergeson, we were off to the races. I love writing with him and love our sound. It took what it took to get where I am going but I can say i’ve found my sound!”
Stuart Anson sent me a few songs from his upcoming EP, “Iconic”, and they have an awesome sound. The four songs that he sent me, Iconic, Never Be Forgot, Obssessions and Skyscraper have a fun summertime vibe to them. These are the songs that will be played at parties, road trips and beach days. They are the ideal songs to put you in a good mood and make you want to have the time of your life. Stu stated “The songs are a little blend of Pitbull, Shawn Mendes and Macklemore. We did features on all four tracks and wanted that summertime, feel good vibe. I think there’s a lot of negativity in the world today and I love bringing a smile to people’s faces.” Stu’s vision for these songs is exactly what I envisioned when I was listening to them; songs to put a smile on everyone’s face.
The two songs that stand out the most to me is Skyscraper feat. Brian Ratcliff and Never Be Forgot feat. Anna. Both songs incorporate everything needed to be a summer anthem. Skyscraper begins with Brian Ratcliff singing over the soft strum of a guitar; “you’re my skyscraper, lift me up so high, without you here, I found it clear you light up my night. Don’t want to sit around here waiting lets just get to elevating, oh, it’s alright, you’re my skyscraper.” From there, Stuart Anson enters the song and takes off! His lyrical flow is so smooth and extremely catchy. Never Be Forgot gives off a HUGE Sammy Adams/Flo Rida vibe. It is a mix between Driving Me Crazy (Sammy Adams) and Wild Ones (Flo Rida). It is only a matter of time before Stuart Anson blows up!
Stu said his biggest challenge has been “fighting back against wanting to quit. Never giving up now matter how demanding or how hopeless or how monotonous it feels.” I am so happy that he fought back all these years and continues striving towards his dream because this new EP is sure to be a huge success! Make sure to check back for updates on Stuart Anson, and listen to “Iconic” when it is released on May 3rd!
