  • SWIM – Heartbeat Connection

SWIM is an Indie Pop-Rock band out of Stony Brook, NY.  The band consists of Daniel McCaffrey (vocals/guitar), Nick Riviezzo (guitars, background vocals), Brian D’Angio (drums/percussion) and Pat Morelli (bass/keyboards).  In the summer of 2017, they were voted one of the “Top 10 bands on Long Island” in Newsday’s Band Battle.  The band has been active all over the island, playing some of my favorite venues such as Revolution Bar and 89 North.  SWIM released their debut, self-titled EP in 2015, their sophomore EP, “Finally, Someone” in 2017 and just released a new single, Heartbeat Connection, this April!  SWIM is another amazing band on an island filled with a dramatically improving music scene, and their new single proves that they will keep climbing to the top!

SWIM released Heartbeat Connection on April 27, 2018.  The first two EP’s released by the band were great, but this new single demonstrates the growth that SWIM has achieved.  The song starts off with an electronic vibe, similar to sounds you would hear from bands like Vampire Weekend and MGMT.  What I love about this intro is how quickly it transitions from the electronic vibe to classic Indie Rock instrumentals.  SWIM stated on their Facebook page that some of their influences are bands such as The Strokes, Neon Trees and The Lumineers.  It is so sick that SWIM was able to pay homage to each band on this single.  It contains electro elements like Neon Trees, fast guitar chords like The Strokes and a folksy, heartfelt undertone that can be heard on songs by The Lumineers.

In addition to the amazing instrumentals, the lyrics of this song are personal and will absolutely resonate with fans.  I got my finger on our heartbeat connection, my pulse is swinging and I won’t let go.  Stop and take a second slow it down and remember, the line is thinner as the distance grows.  When your head is under water you might lose your direction, and get to thinking it’s to hard to show.  Our loving to express it under all this tension, but the heartbeat connection still feels like home.  We’ve got an uphill battle, but well make it through, so long as you need me like I need you.  Fans instantly recognize when a song was written with a purpose or when it was just thrown together.  It is clear this song was written with a story behind it and these lyrics will have fans singing their hearts out every single time!

Heartbeat Connection is the perfect song for any Indie fan.  How this song isn’t playing on Sirius XM’s Alt Nation is beyond me; it sounds better than half the songs they play now!  SWIM is another amazing Long Island band that deserves the spotlight!  Make sure to check out their new single, and other songs by them on the blog’s Spotify playlist; After Hours Review!
