Local Motion is a Long Island band that infuses a funk-rock combo into the music they create. This four piece band is out of West Hampton Beach, NY and they are taking the music scene by storm! With their new single, Sticky Situation already out and their EP, “The North Wind” on the way, Local Motion is a band poised for success.
Despite having only a minimal amount of recorded content released, the band has quickly made a name for themselves. Local Motion has had the extreme pleasure of playing alongside some of Long Island’s biggest band’s, including the powerful Reggae/Rock band, Oogee Wawa. Local Motion released their first single, Sticky Situation, on July 13th of this year, and have been on the move ever since.
I got the opportunity to speak to one of the band member’s, Luke, about their new single. “The first part of the song was written in a time of frustration and bad communication with a girlfriend and I think the song talks a lot about trust. It may not happen overnight but in time it comes and when it does, it’s great.” Luke also expressed that the song highlights that “small fights or disagreements are nothing to the bigger picture when you are truly open with someone.”
I love Luke’s explanation of this song because the lyrics translate so well into the message that he portrayed within the song. Despite the emotional lyrics, Local Motion created a fun summer song that will have you singing and dancing along the entire time. This is a song that should be played at all backyard parties, beach days, long drives, and honestly anywhere else that you may listen to music!
The song begins with light drumming and soft guitar chords to back it. The second I heard this song, it made me think of songs similar to one’s that Dispatch has released. It has such a strong, feel good vibe to it that you can’t help but enjoy listening to! In addition to the infectious instrumentals, the vocals are perfect. The cadence matches the beach/summer vibes of the instrumentals perfectly. “You hear what I say, and not what I mean, in this sticky situation with this bad communication, It’s getting hard not to scream.”
The part I love most about this song is the jam session that Local Motion begins a little more than half way through the song. The tempo speeds up and the volume of the vocals/instrumentals increases just the right amount! The drumming and guitar chords give off a big reggae/rock vibe and are accomponied by the vocals, “you don’t know how much you mean to me.” This is the part of the song that will make every single person in the crowd dance like mad!
Local Motion hit it out the park with this single. It is one of my favorite songs of the summer, and deservedly so! Now I can’t wait for their EP, “The North Wind” to be released!
