CRASHING ATLAS is an Electro Pop/Rock quintet out of Washington D.C. The band consists of Marina Heath (vocals), Dougie Chi-Town (guitar), Felix Nieto (guitar), Chris Bloskey (drums) and Nick Giambruno (bass). CRASHING ATLAS has begun work on their second EP- currently untitled, following the success of their debut “ASCEND”, which produced the radio single “Savages” that made waves across YouTube, garnering over 800,000 views. The first offering off the follow up is the single “Monster”, which can be described from the band as “our most message filled song to date”. Keeping to their formula of hard driving guitars, powerful leads, and electronic pop influences, the band is in top form with their direction.
CRASHING ATLAS released “Monster” in December, and it is has been a huge success so far. The song infuses the Hard Rock style with an Electro sound that is out of this world. I can’t get enough of those amazing guitar riffs that are upbeat but still maintain heavy undertones. With the mix of the infectious instrumentals and Marina’s vocals, this song is the perfect recipe for a banger! Every fan will be singing along! “This feeling’s taking over, my demons pull me under. Your shadow’s getting closer, and I don’t even want to fight it. You left me cold and empty, broken and going crazy. One day I know what you’ll see, I am just a monster that you made me.”
In addition to the single, CRASHING ATLAS also released a music video to go along with it. I was given the opportunity to hear from the band about their take on the new single. “Monster” reflects something that’s inside of everyone, whether it’s battling your depression, addiction, self-image, or any demons that might be holding you back from the truest and best version of yourself. It shows a common and relatable battle of self-control during a cocktail party, and the inner chaos faced when dealing with addiction and escapism.” By it, they mean the music video, and they are spot on when it shows a common and relatable battle of self-control while drinking with friends. The video begins with a cocktail party that is in full swing. I love that each band member is in typical cocktail party attire. It just adds that personal touch to the video. The video focuses on Marina Heath as the person fighting their inner demons. As the party progresses, she gets more and more wrecked. She tosses back drink after drink, with friends and other partygoers clearly concerned. As her soberness deteriorates, her friends attempt to get her to stop drinking. I enjoyed this video so much because it is almost common place now. You go to a party or bar and you’re bound to see one person taking it way too far, having to eventually be controlled by their concerned friends. We’ve all had a night of too many drinks and that isn’t a horrible thing. But being able to say it was a “rough” night and a not a “typical” night shows that you are in control. CRASHING ATLAS did a great job of representing the people who have trouble controlling their “typical” nights.
CRASHING ATLAS not only put out a stellar single, but a kick-ass music video to accompany it. I can’t wait to see what the band has in store for the new album! Make sure to follow their social media, check out the music video, and listen to “Monster” on the blog’s Spotify playlist: After Hours Review!
