Stories Untold is an Alternative Rock/Indie/Emo band out of St. Clair, Michigan. The band consists of Kevin Quednau (rhythm guitar/vocals), Jake Clark (bass guitar/vocals) and Brennen Moloney (drums). I first came across the band about a year ago, when I found their debut release, “Can’t Go Home”. That album is a fifteen track banger filled with amazing instrumentals and some sick vocals. Stories Untold is back at it with their newest single, “Mrs. Blues”, the first off their anticipated new album!
With every song I listen to by Stories Untold, I’m blown away more and more. The way they are able to add such variety into their music is nothing short of impressive. It is amazing the way they can go from a song with hardcore screaming and crazy breakdowns and follow it up with an Alternative/Indie song that is so mellow. “Mrs. Blues” is my new favorite song by Stories Untold. The song starts off with an infectious drumming that will having you tapping along immediately. The entire song has an Alternative/Indie vibe with a harder instrumental twist to it. This enables the song to have that extra kick that will have you dancing and rocking along. I love the bridges of the darker guitar riffs and fast drumming. I almost expected some screaming vocals during this part; not that the song needed it. It is one hundred percent kick ass just the way it is! Along with the instrumentals, the vocals will have fans quickly memorizing every word to sing along with the band. “He’s got pride, we’ve got lies, to lead him to the kill. Don’t wonder why, but what it’s like, what all the talk’s about. Because it’s all we talk about.”
To accompany the new single, Stories Untold released a music video to go along with it. This music video has such a cool concept. The video starts off in a wooded area, and zooms in on Kevin, Jake and Brennen coming out of a small pond and running into the woods. The entire video is set in rewind, as to show what led the three guys to end up in that body of water. As they continue to run through the woods, they are continuously met with groups of people attempting to get them. Each person has paint on their hands, and their handprints end up all over the shirts of the band members. This is such a cool scene to me. Throughout it, polaroids of the band are quickly thrown into the video and just as fast as they came, they disappear, somewhat highlighting what the band was like prior to this event occurring. The video ends with the three guys laying on the ground with dirt being shoveled back on top of them, placing them back in their makeshift graves. I have to say, this is one of my favorite music videos. The concept, the production, and the way it complimented the single so well is fantastic.
Stories Untold keeps coming with hit after hit. Their debut album gained huge attention, and this single/video will most definitely accomplish the same. I can’t wait until they release more material from the new album! Make sure to check out the video and listen to “Mrs. Blues” on the blog’s Spotify playlist: After Hours Review!
