With only five days left until Live Mic Music’s “Battle of the Bands”, we are continuing on with our features of the bands/artists! Up next is AstroGun, a Rock/Punk band out of Queens, NY! AstroGun recently released “Internalization“, a sick twelve track album that will have you rocking along! I am pumped to hear them play some songs from it at the “Battle of the Bands“!
“AstroGun came out of 2 friends, Rob and Astro jamming together in Queens NY. Having played around NYC and feeling they had something to say, they decided to form a full fledged rock band. In the first few months, Astro met up with Rob and had a set of songs ready. After having completed the first set of songs they started auditioning new members. We met Craig who has a great attitude, dedication, strong musical background.”

What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences in the genre?
We are a rock band – a mixture of pop rock and punk rock. Influences: Nirvana, Johnny Marr, Green Day, Metallica, Delirium, Heroes of the Silence
When did you first take an interest in the music scene? What inspired you to make music
Listening to rock music as teenagers inspired us to attend shows and to start playing our instruments.
Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organization?
No to both.
How has your music evolved since you first began making music?
The songwritting has evolved. Rob is the main song writter and as his playing has developed the songs have included more interesting chords and writting overall. In the beginning it was more simple, punk and powerchord.
What has been your biggest challenge as a band/artist so far?
Keeping a full line up and dealing with peoples drama and ego!
What can you tell me about any new material, writing and recording process, inspiration for the music, etc?
We just completed our first album – Internalization. Writting process: Rob (lead guitar) is the main song writter – his process is sitting down with the guitar and a bottle of wine and seeing what comes out! That idea then gets brought to the band and we work on it together. Recording process – after we work on the idea in rehearsal (to get the song down), we record our parts individually and then sent the tracks to the producer to put together. Inspiration for the music: no conscious inspiration! But Rob writes better under pressure! When there is a deadline.
Do you have any main themes or topics you like to hit in your music?
Social topics. Love, drugs, drama, religion, relationships.
What’s the ultimate direction you have for the band?
To use our music to bring awareness to the topics and themes of the music BUT in an entertaining way. And to inspire others to play rock music too.
Any upcoming release dates or shows?
Desmond’s Tavern – 15th February 10pm.
We are shooting a video on 2/25 so we are focusing on that.
Other shows to follow.
Another show on 3/23 to come as well.
Looking forward to the show!
