  • Bay Street – “Sucker Punch”

Bay Street is a Pop Punk/Hardcore/Easycore band out of Apopka, Florida.  The band consists of Zachery Maas (vocals), Devin Rintelmann (guitar), and Jason Bean (drums).  They are gearing up for the release of their EP, “Point Proven” and have released some sick singles to support the project.  Bay Street released “Sucker Punch”, the second single off “Point Proven” and it is a banger!

Bay Street was just an idea for guitarist Devin Rintelmann back when he was 16 years old.  While attending a show on The Devil Wears Prada Dead Throne Tour in 2011, Devin met Zach through a mutual friend.  The two hit it off and began writing music together almost immediately.  While they started off with a strong Easycore sound, the band has progressed to a much heavier sound.  With a change of lineup, Bay Street has now incorporated their old style with their new heavy element to create one kick-ass sound!

Devin shared his view point on the new EP and new direction of Bay Street!  “Point Proven is about literally proving our point with the band and showing there really aren’t any boundaries as to what you can do with music. There’s all kinds of songs on the EP.  We’ve been working on and recording this EP for 3 years now, we’ve scrapped songs, wrote new ones, brought back up old ones, and changed our line up over the course of that time. From the start everyone told us we couldn’t do heavy pop punk music and couldn’t have heavy songs on an EP with pop punk songs.  Everyone was just really telling us we couldn’t do these things, they can’t be done. No one really understood that we were actually getting heavier either. Everyone thought our first single “1640 Riverside Dr” was our heavy side we have been talking about. The EP is about good times, bad times, life and death, love, anxiety, heartbreak, and everything in between.”

“Sucker Punch” is the second single released for the EP and it is amazing!  If you have been following the blog, it’s no surprise that I’m a sucker for that hardcore sound.  Of course this song has now become a staple in my daily music listening!  “Sucker Punch” starts with one of the nastiest guitar riffs and fast paced drumming that leads into some insane vocals from Zach.  It reminds me of the sick buildup on the beginning of Beartooth’sAggressive”.  The first verse of the song is infectious and will have fans screaming at the top of their lungs.  “I’m losing so much blood, leaning on the shoulder of death.  Still you’re stuck in my head.  Being blinded by the light of truth, still you lie but I’ve seen the proof.  I’ve seen the proof!”  These lyrics are filled with such strong emotions that it will undoubtedly resonate with fans.  Overall, “Sucker Punch” is a jam, but it’s the last forty seconds that really stand out to me.  Bay Street knew exactly how to shut up all the doubtful people thinking they can’t come with a hardcore sound by including a killer breakdown!  This is definitely the single that will set the tone for the bands new, amazing sound.

Bay Street said they had a hardcore side that fans wouldn’t expect, and god damn were they correct!  If “Sucker Punch” is a sign of things to come for the band, I cannot wait to hear “Point Proven”!  Devin stated “2019 is gonna be the year of Bay Street. We have SO MUCH planned for the year. Once the EP drops we’re going to hit the ground running.”  After hearing this new single, I have the utmost confidence that Bay Street is here to make a killing in the music scene.  Make sure to follow the band’s social media accounts and check out “Sucker Punch” on the blog’s Spotify playlist: After Hours Review!
