Scotchka is an Emo/Indie band out of Albany, NY. The band consists of Dominick Murdock (vocals/rhythm guitar), Mitchell Campbell (back-up vocals/lead guitar), Drew Fatone (back-up vocals/bass), and Brian Fahey (back-up vocals/drums). The band initially began as an acoustic solo project of Dominick Murdock’s in 2015 and has since transformed into the band they are today; a power house alt-rock band that fuses indie, emo, and punk roots together to create an awesome sound. Scothcka released “Back on the Liquor”, an amazing single that everyone will enjoy!
Dominick Murdock stated, “the single is really about just graduating college and life getting marginally worse back home. However, we keep it positive in the song and focus on the all too fleeting moments of chilling with friends and being around good company.” I think so many people can relate to this song. Post-college life can be extremely difficult, especially if you’re still unsure of what you are ultimately going to do with the rest of your life. The first verse and chorus describes this feeling perfectly. “So happy we can smoke outside again, through the winter, the bathtub was my best friend. Someone I can smoke with, and get undressed in front of. Life has been half bad since college, maybe even 7/8ths if I’m being honest. Think I could use, a training montage to get me past this cause I don’t want it. But I like it when we’re stoned, at least for the moment. You stare at the surfing and I’ll forget what time it is.”
Besides the relatable lyrics, Scothcka comes with amazing instrumentals that will have every indie/emo/pop punk fan dying for more. When I first listened to the song, I immediately recognized the influences of bands like Motion City Soundtrack and Saves the Day. The upbeat guitar chords and drumming match perfectly to create a sound that you won’t be able to help but dance too. I can’t wait until these guys make their way down to Long Island so I can rock out to this one with the rest of the crowd!
Scotchka doesn’t have any plans of slowing down and are ready to show the world what they’ve got! “We came into summer with 3 singles lined up for release. Back on the Liquor was the first that just went out, with the other two being released in August and September respectively. Following the singles will be the full album release slated for sometime in the Fall. We’re not yet sure if we’re going to do a supportive tour of the record or not yet, or if we want to rely entirely on online marketing to push it. We’re also shopping out to labels. We’ve been asked a couple times but the ones that asked us have extremely large rosters and we’re looking for a smaller DIY label to sign with.” Make sure you keep an eye out for the following singles in the coming months, and follow Scotchka on all their social media pages for updates!
