Green Knuckle Material is a Hip Hop/Punk Rock band out of Bergen County, New Jersey. The band consists of Ydk (acoustic guitar/lead vocals), Dstring (bass/vocals), Sax Dan (sax), Mudd Dog (electric guitar), Cuba Missile (lead guitar), and Tony Baja (drums). The band has been making waves throughout the tristate area over the past year and is continuing to grow more and more! What immediately caught my attention was the diversity you hear in their music. Their numerous and varying influences can be heard throughout each song! “We are a diverse group of musicians that combine pretty unlikely styles of music (Punk, Pop, Hip Hop, Metal, Blues, Jazz, you name it we use it). But it somehow works. We’re all about diversity and acceptance of all people and we want our music to reflect that.”
Green Knuckle Material released their new single, “Who We Are”, this past Friday (11/22). The instrumentals on this song is what hooked me. The song starts off with a calm guitar intro, sprinkles some nasty saxophone throughout, and has a jam session that completely shreds right in the middle of the song. This song alone demonstrates how GKM is able to blend in with so many genres. “Who We Are” is a song that will fit in with most genres, whether its a Punk Rock crowd or a Reggae Rock crowd. I can picture half the crowd singing at the top of their lungs while the other half is moshing and going wild. Now I can’t wait to be able to catch GKM myself!
“Who We Are” is the final song being released with Green Knuckle Material’s previous lineup, including rapper Scatterbrain pg. I got the chance to hear the band’s point of view on their new single. “Who We Are is about drug addiction and how it not only affects the person addicted, but all the people around them. It’s a guitar-heavy song featuring a cool breakdown. It’s also our first attempt at some more advanced vocal work. Previously, our songs haven’t had many harmonies. In this song, we not only included harmonies but also included some unique vocal parts where there are multiple parts going on simultaneously.” This is definitely my favorite GKM song to date. In addition to the killer instrumentals and awesome vocals, the song has a deeper meaning behind it that fans will appreciate! With all of the components combines, Green Knuckle Material is on the road to success!
Green Knuckle Material is an awesome original band putting out some bangers! These guys have the ability to fit in with most genres and make sure their music represents that. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in the near future! Make sure you follow GKM’s social media and check out their music on the blog’s Spotify playlist: After Hours Review!
