  • Scatterbrained. – “Do Better”

On January 1st, two-piece punk-alternative band scatterbrained. kicked off the new year and decade the right way by blessing our ear-holes with a six minute genre-bending single, “Do Better”. According to the group’s percussionist and spoken word artist Clutch, the single “stands to represent a reminder of good times passed, on the surface level, but more importantly a reminder that it is never too late to do better today than we did yesterday…It’s okay to remember a better time, to learn from those good times and the bad, to stop and smell the roses. But to always set our sights towards the future, and work through the present. To overcome and achieve our goals.”. “Do Better” is a solemn reminder that we could all stand to help and nurture ourselves and the relationships we have with each other and the planet, all wrapped up in a beautiful blend of ambient pop-alternative, spoken word, and funk tones.

What I love about this single is that it does not feel as long as it actually is; the beautifully crafted instrumentals and vocalist Andrew’s lyrics expertly ebb and flow within different rhythms and tones, that you could put this single on repeat all day and never notice you’re listening to one song! Even when Clutch’s emotional spoken word verse bursts in, it still feels like an integral part of the song for both the message and the unique musical fabric that makes up scatterbrained.
