Final Call is a Alternative Rock/Pop Punk band from Long Island. The band consists of Pat Carrol (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Greg Diem (lead guitar), Evan Brandow (drums), and Josh Roiland (bass guitar). What started out as some jam sessions and performance at a high school variety show, led to the discovery of their passion. They are “four best friends who just love to make music.” In January of this year, Final Call released a new single; “Sun Now Setting”.
“Sun Now Setting” is a song that demonstrates the band’s Alternative Rock side. Final Call credits bands like Oasis, State Champs and Green Day as influences on them. This single leans more towards the Oasis vibe, with vocals similar to a softer State Champs or Green Day song. Typically when I think of bands like State Champs and Green Day, I think of heavier, faster instrumentals and loud vocals. It was exciting to still be able to hear undertones of their influence on such an Alternative dominated song. “Sun Now Setting” starts off with guitar chords that immediately catch your attention. The soft tone of the drums compliment the guitars perfectly and allow for Pat Carrol’s voice to shine. Final Call stated that “Sun Now Setting is a song about growing up and appreciating friends and family who were always there for us in our lives so far.” I love this idea for a song. Most bands write songs about past relationships, the ups and downs of life, partying, etc. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a band that created a song to simply say, “thank you”. “You are the one’s who kept me anchored and ground. You are the one’s who made me feel safe and sound. You guys helped me out, you guys helped me out. You are the ones I will miss most when I’m gone. Thank god, I won’t be missing for long. You guys helped me out, you guys helped me out.” That is awesome! In addition to the meaningful vocals, the guitar solo at the end of the song will keep you coming back for more!
I was introduced to Final Call a while back and enjoyed their Pop Punk sound. Hearing “Sun Now Setting” opened my eyes to the talent and diversity this band has. I can’t wait to hear what they have in store for us next! Follow Final Call on all their social media accounts, and check out some music from them on the blog’s Spotify playlist: After Hours Review!
