Bore – “Bore II”
Bore is a New York based Hardcore band that is making waves in the hardcore scene right now! The band consists of Branden Gallagher (vocals), Sid Valiquette (bass), Phil Corso (drums), Frank Falchek (guitar) and Danny Kopij (guitar). Founded in 2018, Bore quickly made a name for themselves and proved they deserved recognition in NYHC! They released their first EP, “Bore” in 2019 and gained immediate attention. They even shared a stage with Hardcore legends, Comeback Kid! Now, Bore is back to melt your faces with their sophomore EP, “Bore II”!
“Bore II features four new heavy hitters the band has crafted in the past year including: the powerful opening tack, ‘Yield’, the anthemic and catchy ‘Larynx’, the sludgy ‘Leeches and Wine’, and the disorderly close, ‘L’appel Du Vide’”. Bore knew exactly what Hardcore fans needed right now and delivered with this release. Not being able to let loose at a show is driving me nuts; I can only imagine the amount of people who can’t help but mosh around their house while blasting this album! “Bore II” starts off with “Yield”, a monster of a track that hits you right in the face and doesn’t let up. What really stands out is the breakdown that goes through the entire final minute of the song. There is no doubt in my mind that the breakdown is going to be a highlight at their future shows!
Bore follows up with “Larynx”. This is in the running for my favorite song on the EP, simply due to the lyricism on the track. “We’ve lost our voices, it’s in the way we breath. Be put to death for a slip of the tongue.” I’m not sure if Bore was referencing the current state of society over the past few years, but it absolutely does feel like we’ve lost our voices. The whole world is extremely sensitive, and all it takes is one slip of the tongue and you’re putting on the chopping block for the whole world to see.
“Bore II” ends with “Leeches and Wine” and “L’appel Du Vide”. “Leeches and Wine” is two minutes of nonstop mayhem. The guitar chords throughout this song are nasty! They pair perfectly with Brendan Gallaghers vocals and Phil Corso’s fast-paced drumming! The EP ends with “L’appel Du Vide”. Everything about this song says it shouldn’t be the closer for the EP, and yet it fits perfectly in that spot. This song is HEAVY and it has the listener craving more and more. Bore knows how to keep you coming back!
No matter what genre you consider yourself to be, it isn’t easy to get your music noticed. In a time where the music scene is completely over-saturated, it takes true talent to make your band shine above the rest. Bore did exactly that. They followed up a well received debut EP with an even more kick ass EP. What I love is that they were able to make a different element stand out on each song. Whether it be the vocals and lyrical message, the guitar, bass, or drums, Bore’s pure talent shines through each track.
