LA Creus – “Nothing Lasts Forever (Anicca)

“Nothing Lasts Forever (Anicca)” is Laurie Anne Creus’ debut single released this year. I had first experienced Laurie’s music last year at The Velvet Lounge, where she captivated the room with her powerful voice and passion as she vibed with her band and ignited the tiny stage with her keyboard. Since then I’ve been so eager to hear what her first release into the streaming universe would be and let me tell you the single blew my anticipations and expectations out of the water!

The course of this track, from Laurie’s personal journey to the final manifestation of this release, is inspiring in itself. “Anicca is Pali for impermanence…I learned that word at [Vipassana].” Laurie wrote to me when speaking of the release. Vipassana is a ten-day silent retreat, where participants meditate for 10+ hours a day without phone, speaking, music, etc. Laurie went to Vipassana in April of 2018 when she had been at a “huge crossroads at that point in my life [and] was desperate to figure out my head”. Being in an environment without external distractions and a space to truly be with her emotions the experience had been cathartic for Laurie, reigniting her passion for music and ultimately allowing her to let go of past emotional strain and jump start a new, fantastic chapter in her life.  “[Anicca] has a huge meaning to me because it taught me how to sit through being uncomfortable and helped me to understand that even those moments are only temporary.” The authentic instrumentation, paired with lyrics that feel like words of affirmation combine to make a powerful single that Laurie fans new and old are sure to be listening to over and over again.
