Words Like Wildfire is back with “I Won’t Forgive You”, the third and final installment of their three part video series based around mental health, substance abuse, and addiction. With the first two videos, “The Rain” and “Painted Pictures”, the band showed their listeners how bad one’s struggle with mental health and addiction issues can really get. They did an amazing job of highlighting how one’s personal struggles can cause a chain reaction through the lives of the people closest to them. With the release of “I Won’t Forgive You”, Words Like Wildfire brings this tragic story to an end.
Words Like Wildfire told us this story through the eyes of a person in the toxic relationship. We are given a firsthand account of the pain, anger, guilt and suffering that are brought on by the events that took place during this relationship. The music video takes place in a cemetery, foreshadowing how the battle with mental health/addiction came to an end. As the video progresses, we see how each individual is impacted by the situation. The video quickly transitions into a scene of chaos with a desk covered with empty beer bottles, baggies, and spoiled food. It quickly pans over to the woman in the relationship presumably texting her dealer “can I pick up?” This scene was such a minor part of the video yet resonated with me so much. Despite the chaos that her apartment is in and the obvious need to organize, her addiction comes first. This was a perfect way to demonstrate how much an addiction pushes normal responsibilities to the back of a person’s priorities.
So many bands have taken on the topic of mental health struggles and addiction within their music. It isn’t a new thing in the music world. Words Like Wildfire took it a step beyond other bands/artists. Rather than just releasing one single, they released an entire storyline. Having these three music videos to go along with the songs created an amazing visual representation of what so many people go through on a daily basis!
Words Like Wildfire is an emerging Post-Hardcore band that has shown no signs of slowing down. The release of this video series and the “Classic Tragedy” EP has put these boys on the map! Make sure you follow them on all their social media and check out the three songs on the blog’s Spotify playlist: After Hours Review!
