I Fight Fail is a Post-Hardcore band out of Canton, Ohio. The band consists of Andy Potter (vocals/bass), Daryl Johnson (guitar/vocals), and Anthony Carter (drums). They independently released their first EP in early 2014 and have been on a path to success ever since. From then until now, the band has scored record deals, supported national acts, scored features in prominent news & media outlets, and gathered a ton of fans along the way. I Fight Fail is back with their most recent single, “Here”!
“Here” is a track that has emotion pouring out of it. Anthony Carter stated that “this song is about losing something or someone you love and how it causes you to feel trapped or alone. It can also be perceived as don’t take life and the things you have for granted because it could be in an instant.” You can feel a sense of loneliness and sadness through the dark, ominous undertones of the guitar chords and heart-wrenching vocals. “Here, the room gets smaller, the walls close in, it makes it so hard to breathe without you, here, it feels like falling, no atmosphere, it makes it so hard to breathe without you here.” For anyone who has ever felt lost, alone or secluded, these lyrics hit home. Something that stands out so much to me is the presence of influences from the early 2000s Post Hardcore/Emo scene. They took what Post-Hardcore fans know and love and threw in their own personal sound and style, creating an irresistible song. In addition to the single, I Fight Fail released an amazing music video to go along with it. The video shows a woman being chased down by man, something Anthony Carter says represents “when you try to run from your problems, fears, and or pain, it will always catch up.”
