Canadian Pop-Punk / Post-Hardcore band, Rival Town has started of 2021 with a bang! After releasing their single “Swear Jar” in July, Rival Town is back with their follow up single, “Coming up Short”! This single is exactly what the Pop-Punk world needs right now!
To me, Pop-Punk has had somewhat of a resurgence lately. It never went away, but the quality seemed to be stale and unoriginal. However, over the past few years there seems to be a huge spike of kick-ass bands to take over the scene. One of those killer bands is Rival Town! This new single is everything I hoped for when I heard the band was releasing a new single. Rival Town represents a heavier side of Pop-Punk, incorporating deeper guitar riffs and instrumentals that make you want to go wild in the crowd. “Coming up Short” is a perfect representation of everything Rival Town is about. The track starts with vocals that go along beautifully with the guitar. The opening line is one that fans will be singing every time. “I still want the taste. It’s like I’m walking on the ice and I feel it start to break. But I can’t pretend when you pull me in but, you won’t believe me and I’m on that panic feeling and the waters getting deeper, I think I’ll let myself sink”. As the song progresses, Rival Town shows off their Post-Hardcore side with some gnarly screaming vocals and a hardcore instrumental that will surely open up the pit!
“Coming up Short” is my favorite Pop-Punk release of 2021 so far. If Rival Town keeps dropping hits like this, their year is sure to be huge! Check out the music video below and stream “Coming up Short” on the blog’s Spotify playlist: After Hours Review!
