Earlier this February, Nate Flud released his second track of the 2021 year, “Nobody Noticed”. Flud is a Los Angeles-based performance/recording artist and has become a true pioneer in modern Pop Punk. With the genre being so saturated with musicians that tend to look to the past for inspiration for their music, it feels extremely refreshing to hear, especially from a solo artist, a fresh approach to Pop Punk.
““Nobody Noticed” is about getting caught in the problems that we face on a daily basis.” Flud wrote to me about the single, “With how fast this world is moving nowadays, It’s so easy to feel lost in the emotions that those problems bring. But if we take some time and reflect on those things, we realize that they don’t really matter and that everything will be okay and you’ll come around sooner or later. Nobody is exempt for those problems that life throws and it’s easy to get lost in the mix of it all.” What I love about “Nobody Noticed” is the fact that, while it is very reminiscent of early 2010’s pop-punk, the subtle new-wave elements — the “trap” percussion and post-hardcore gang vocals for example — truly make it unique within the pop-punk scene. While the genre typically calls for a “core-four” band presence, it is truly refreshing to see a solo artist create incredible, catchy riffs and really make an impact within this scene. Hearing this track goes to show much the scene of Pop-Punk/Post-Hardcore has really developed over the past decade; everything from a desire to experiment with different stylings and elements to an access of music tech has become such a staple within a timeless genre like this and its ability to evolve and capture the hearts of its loyal fans. I truly feel that Nate Flud is a perfect example of this unwavering passion to experiment and grow, while also staying true to the Pop-Punk core, and we are here for that ride.
