Misplaced is a Pop Punk band hailing from Scotland! The band consists of Kyle, Kenny, Nic, and Richard. As newcomers in the Pop Punk scene, Misplaced is already making a name for themselves. They quickly gained a strong following, signed with We Are Triumphant, and have gained over 10k+ streams on their new single, “ffs” in 5 short days. These guys are killing it!
“ffs” is one of my top releases of 2021. I love that Misplaced was able to stay true to the traditional Pop Punk sound while throwing in their own style on the track. The beginning of the track amps you up immediately. I love the way the progression of the guitar chords and drumming slowly creeps up in intensity until the full band comes in. The way the full band hits sends chills up your spine! I can only imagine how wild a crowd will go when they play this song live! Something that really stood out to me was that Misplaced chose to leave out a traditional chorus from the song. By leaving out the expected chorus, “ffs” became a song that gradually picks up throughout the entirety of the track. The final verse of the song is where it all comes together. You can feel the raw emotion that went into this song through the heavy instrumentals and hard-hitting vocals that come in at the end. Kyle sings “the war is mine. I’ll fight out on the road past all the warning signs. I won’t reply, to the voices in my head they don’t mean right. If I die tonight, just gag my screams there’s not much left of me inside. Oh I fell, oh I fell, I fell in love with a lie.”
I got the chance to hear about the meaning and backstory behind “ffs” from the four guys that make up Misplaced! Check it out below!
Kyle: “ffs is really just me venting about how I felt in a messed up sort of relationship I had. Idk, I just fell in love with a lie bro.”
Kenny: “The song changed a lot in the weeks before we laid it down. The one part that we knew we loved was the outdo and so we almost wrote the song around that in the end. The song really explodes in that moment and we like the idea of setting that up by not having a chorus. The verses blend together a bit, then you get a build and the big resolution at the end. I think it highlights the arc of Kyle’s lyrics, they’re kind of tortured all the way through until the track explodes at the end and they become super defiant.”
Nic: “This song has to be one of my favourites that we have recorded so far. The highlight of this track had to be making the feedback samples that you hear in the intro to the song. I was set up in the booth with the amp as loud as it could go whilst I moved around the room like an astronaut on some sort of hallucinogens with the guys laughing at me through the class. Definitely the most fun day recording.”
Richard: “We had a blast filming the video DIY style. Four men, their instruments, two cameras and the unforgiving Scottish Winter. Fuck it was cold that day! We found a spot up the back of a graveyard and just shot from whatever places looked good to us in the moment whilst braving the cold (and eventually) snow. Hell of a day though! We took the footage and sent it off to Andrew Goach because we fucking love his style! This is actually my favourite song we’ve recorded thus far, watching it grow up and have various iterations before it became the song that you hear today has been a beautiful thing and I’m so proud with the direction the song went in.”
Misplaced is a band that should be on everyone’s radar! These guys are destined to do big things in the music scene. Make sure you stream “ffs” on the blog’s Spotify playlist: After Hours Review!
