Looking for some heavy new music to fill that music void in your life? Look no further than Post-Hardcore band, The High Ground. Last month, THG released their highly anticipated single, “Bombs Away”, and it has done nothing but blow people away since it dropped! Packed with a powerful message, face melting guitar riffs and fast paced drumming that will have you going crazy in the pit, The High Ground delivered exactly what the fans were asking for!
“Bombs Away” is the perfect song for The High Ground to have as their final release of 2021. The song immediately captures your attention with the sound of sirens in the background accompanied by hard-hitting vocals. “You think I won’t stand up for myself. You think I’m weak, so go on and try me!” This is a sick vocal introduction because it sets the tone for the song perfectly. The raw, heavy emotions felt are consistent throughout the track and are matched perfectly by the hard-hitting instrumentals. Something that captured my attention is the “Bombs Away!” gang vocals that lead into the bridge/breakdown before each chorus. There’s something about gang vocals in songs that hits me and brings me back to the early/mid 2000s post hardcore days. That, matched with the intense bridge/breakdown that follows it will make any hardcore fan happy.

Something else that has to be pointed out is the chorus itself. The High Ground packs a powerful message in the chorus, and it is definitely something that we have all wished we could say to someone in some variation or another. “It’s been long overdue, that I make it clear to you, that I’m done, I’m done, I’m through. You’ve had your way with me before, but you won’t anymore. When you call, I won’t fall, like a mountain I stand tall. You’ve had your way with me before, now it’s time I cut you out!” I’m taking this chorus as a sign for how to live in 2022 and you all should too! Time to cut the bullshit out of your life, whether it’s a toxic person, behavior, whatever situation in your life. Follow the lead of The High Ground and you’ll have nothing to worry about!
With the release of “Bombs Away” at the end of 2021, The High Ground ended the year with a bang and gave us a taste of what they have in store for 2022! INTERVIEW WITH THE HIGH GROUND!
Dan: Where did you draw inspiration from for the new single?
THG: I think we all had a lot of creative energy pent-up over the last two years, so once we were able to get some studio time booked, the song wrote itself very quickly. We had a blast working on the tune, with everyone contributing greatly to the song.
Lyrically, I wrote this one about an Anxiety disorder that I suffer from. Generally it’s not really something I like to talk about, but I feel like in the context of this song it could help a lot of people. I wrote it to help myself. “Bombs Away” is about going to war with the part of yourself that brings you down. It’s about mentally being tough enough to finally put your foot down and stand your ground. I really hope that anyone who suffers from any sort of mental health problem can hear the song and get some motivation, encouragement, and support from it.

Dan: What does this new single mean to the band?
THG: To us, this single means a new start. Obviously it’s been quite a while since our last release. In that time, we kept growing as musicians. We feel that this single best represents who we are as a band currently.
-Matt Brown
Dan: “Bombs Away” is the first new song we’ve heard from you guys in a little while. What has changed with the band since your previous release?
THG: We’ve spent a lot of time working on improving at our individual instruments, as well as really honing in on our songwriting skills. We’ve started gravitating towards a heavier sound, and have been focused on releasing the absolute best music we can with emphasis on the quality and structure of the songs themselves above all else.
-Jack Brown
Dan: How did you guys navigate life as a band over the past 2 crazy years?
THG: The last two years were definitely rough. Having no shows to look forward to or studio time booked, it was tough to stay motivated. Through everything though, we kept to a rehearsal schedule and met up regularly, so that way when shows returned, we would be ready.
-Matt Brown
Dan: What’s next for THG?
THG: Hopefully there will be no more setbacks that are out of our control. If that’s the case, we have songs recorded for an EP that we will be releasing sometime early 2022. As we’ve said before, We are expecting to be very busy for the next few years, with lots of touring and local shows, as well as recording and releasing new music.
