  • Afterparty – “Dark Times”

It’s Friday and you know what that means; NEW MUSIC! Long Island’s own Alternative-Pop band, Afterparty, is back with new music for the first time since their 2018 album release! The new single, “Dark Times”, proves that it was well worth the wait. Afterparty brought everything that we know and love about their sound and blew this track out of the water! Long Island needed Afterparty back in our lives!

Afterparty created a song that will become a fan favorite for years to come. The band perfectly incorporated Pop-Punk riffs and fast paced drumming to compliment the Alt-Pop nature of the track. We all love a good guitar riff and drumming that will keep you moving and grooving, but lyrical content is equally as important. The vocals on this song will hit home for so many people out there in the same situation. Throughout the song, lead vocalist Drew Dijorio reflects on the negativity that others have projected upon him, whether it be for “wasting talent”, “amounting to nothing”, etc. I love the examples that Drew included because they’re something that most of us have heard at one point or another. Everyone has been/will be/is going through “dark times” in their lives. What matters is how we handle those times, how we continue to push forward. “I won’t pick up my phone, if you call I’ll ignore it. I stay awake all night, it’s 8 am in the morning. I won’t pick up my phone, if you call I’ll ignore it, it’s time for you to check in. I’m going through some dark times.” Sometimes, ignoring the people causing those “dark times” is for the best; to stand up for yourself and say “fuck you” to the people doubting you.

Don’t let the title fool you, if you’re looking for a new jam for the summer you have found it! “Dark Times” will have you both dancing around and singing along the entire time, whether you’re listening at home or at an Afterparty show! Make sure you follow Afterparty on all social media, and stream “Dark Times” on our Spotify playlist; After Hours Review!
