  • Karma Versa – “Hempstead”

Karma Versa is a five piece, Post-Hardcore band hailing from Long Island, NY! The band consists of Oscar Nunez (vocals), Guilberto Garcia (guitar), Christian Seda (guitar), Bryan McDugle (bass) and Gerson Casillas (drums). I’ve been anxiously waiting for some new Karma Versa music since they dropped “Merriam” in 2018. Thankfully, Karma Versa is back with their highly anticipated new single, “Hempstead”!

Hempstead” is without a doubt, one of my favorite songs released in 2020 and it only dropped on bandcamp a week ago! This song is an absolute MONSTER. It makes you want to scream and thrash around as if you’re standing right in front of them performing on stage. The heavy instrumentals and vocals come in hard and you can’t help but let it take over. “Do you feel like a God?” instantly radiates through the speakers as Oscar shows off his vocal skills. Between Oscar’s nasty vocals and the band’s insane skills that compliment the vocals so well, you’re thrown in Post-Hardcore heaven. What is really worth noting about the instrumentals is how much the sound and tempo varies throughout the roughly three minute track. Karma Versa has taken the traditional sound and style of the genre and blended it with their own kick-ass flow!

Hempstead” is a song that everyone needs to listen to. Whether your a fan of the genre or not, Karma Versa has a clear, strong message; a message that needs more band’s in the scene to take a stand for. “Do you feel like a God? You’re praised, yet give nothing in return. Do you feel like a God? If you beat her enough, she’ll surely learn. Do you feel anything? Besides the bruises on your knuckles? He goes to church, we know he’s fake. He washes down the pity, then rapes.WOW. What a powerful opening verse. Domestic abuse is no joke and we unfortunately hear more and more examples of this regularly. This HAS to stop. I applaud Karma Versa for doing exactly what needs to be done; calling out every piece of shit that hits a woman.

Karma Versa is the real deal. These guys already proved their worth with their last release, but “Hempstead” just put them on a whole different playing field. I can’t wait until live music becomes a thing again and I can hear this song performed on stage! Make sure you follow Karma Versa on all of their social media platforms and stream “Hempstead” on the blog’s Spotify playlist: After Hours Review!
