New York’s Alternative Rock band, Fernway, is starting off the year with a bang with the release of the single and music video for “XXIII”! These five guys have been dropping hit after hit since their debut in 2017 and they are showing no signs of slowing down! Combining influences of Pop Punk, Pop Rock, Alternative/Emo with a groovy twist makes Fernway an irresistible listen!
“XXIII” is easily one of my favorite Fernway songs. The band did an amazing job of combining their influences to create a track that will be loved by almost all music fans! I was instantly hooked by the beautiful guitar chords that have such a serene sound to them. The guitar chords compliment the vocals so well! Another stand out on this track is the drumming. I LOVE when the drumming picks up the pace between the verse and chorus. You can feel the beat of the song traveling through you as you tap your foot and dance along!
Fernway shared with New Noise Magazine that “XXIII” is a song that was written by the band over only a day or two! Quarantine hit everyone hard in March of 2020 and we all dealt with it differently. Fernway decided to take advantage of the situation and wrote an instant classic! The band had just returned from tour and had time to reflect with the quarantine beginning. RJ DeMarco spent this time “thinking about the people who have come and gone in my life over the past two years, trying to figure out what it mean. Then the song idea was born.” RJ stated that “XXIII is about falling out of love with someone who pretends to love back. Investing your entire being into a person who doesn’t exist.” This is a song I think many people need to hear! Too often do we see someone in a relationship that is clearly one-sided. It is important to recognize these signs and do what is best for you! The theme of “XXIII” is clearly evident during the second verse. “When you finally let it go. When that moment comes, I’ll know. That I was better off without your voice inside of my head, without your voice inside of my head.”
